Vibration Analysis, Monitoring & Mitigation

Field testing, classical vibration analysis and numerical modelling used together to identify the physical mechanism and develop practical corrective measures.

Vibration Analysis, Monitoring & Mitigation

From measurement to engineered solution

Measure

Field vibration measurements, monitoring, frequency spectra, operating response, impact/bump testing and experimental modal testing.

Diagnose & Model

Identify dominant frequencies, excitation and resonance, then use classical calculations, modal analysis and FEA where required.

Validate & Mitigate

Compare predictions with measured behaviour and develop practical changes such as stiffening, support modifications, isolation, base modifications or resonance avoidance.

Field measurement and analytical diagnosis

Vibration problems are approached by correlating measured behaviour with the machine, structure and operating condition. Frequency spectra, time waveforms, operating speed, impact or bump testing and observed motion can be combined with classical calculations and numerical models to distinguish excitation from structural resonance.

Mitigation that addresses the cause

Potential solutions may include stiffness changes, support or base modifications, mass changes, isolation, operating changes or resonance avoidance. Where modelling is used, field measurements provide an important basis for checking whether the model represents the observed system before modifications are evaluated.

Investigating the source of vibration

A vibration investigation considers the relationship between excitation, structural response and operating conditions. Field observations and measurements can be combined with dynamic modelling to evaluate potential causes and proposed modifications. This approach supports mitigation options that address the behaviour of the system, including changes to supports, stiffness, mass or operating conditions where appropriate to the scope.
